Ruusian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin, is apparently keen for his government to move to using open source software and save the country money. The plan would see all major government systems change to using Linux by the second quarter of 2012 and the government infrastructure to be built on open source software by 2014. Previous attempts to to move to an open source framework have so far not succeeded but with the most recent order by the government “The Transition Plan of the Federal Authorities and Federal Budgetary Institutions to Free Software" now being supported by Putin, there is a better chance of success.
